Quicksilver. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091814/ Kevin Bacon is an options trader who goes bust, becomes a bicycle messenger and then becomes an options trader again. A lady bean trader makes a deal with the devil to become a super-trader. Has good re-enactments of ag pit trading. I can't help it, but I still love quotes from "Wall Street". Hell, I've even heard traders on the floor quoting it - so it can't be that far off the mark :) Looking forward to the Wall Street sequel that is shooting right now....as for the others, "Boiler Room" was interesting, even though it did depict a seedy operation - the part I like best is the "interview" scene when affleck is doing his monologue. Frickin hilarious. Posted by Daniel Krawczun - May 16 2007 @ 2:54 PM Re: Best Trading Movie? I agree with all the above as far as on screen dipictions go, but I must say that the best dipiction of the true world of trading, especially early in your career has to be a book "Ugly Americans". I picked this up in the airport one day and could not put it down till completed. Posted by carvcu02 - May 11 2007 @ 6:23 PM Re: Best Trading Movie? Great question, I think Rogue Trader was good, Trading Places was funny, Wall Street was a classic movie, but not technical enough for me, Boiler Room tried too hard. Needless to say I own all of those movies on DVD. Posted by alan - May 11 2007 @ 12:33 PM Re: Best Trading Movie? I finally watched watched Wall Street quite two months ago, after I got my internship offer. It's quite like Devil Wears Wear Prada for a Fashion magazine, a little too sensationalised for the sake of the taste of the expecting movie goers I feel. Well it's the film industry anyway, the term 'industry' for a reason. Anyway, I can't wait to start my trading internship this coming summer; feeling all the positive vibes. That's what getting me through my unending revision for the coming summer term exams. I hope I won't be disappointed!! Posted by murdock13 - May 8 2007 @ 3:36 PM Re: Best Trading Movie? Rogue Trader Posted by Vyyper - May 3 2007 @ 12:09 PM Re: Best Trading Movie? Ditto - Wall Street had its high point but Trading Places got me curious enough to take a closer look at the industry. Posted by Todd Tarpley - May 1 2007 @ 10:48 AM Re: You're No Roger Ebert, But Name The Best... There has never been a great trading movie. "Wall Street" was unflattering and moralistic. "Trading Places" was silly (and unflattering). "Boiler Room" only showed a seedy side of the business. I can't think of a movie in which trading was positioned as a positive or even neutral activity. Believe it or not, the two trading movies that got me interested in the business was "Trading Places" and "Rollover" with Kris Kristoferson playing a hot shot FX trader" |
